The latest “Cross-border E-commerce Industry Development Research Report” shows that in recent years, my country’s cross-border e-commerce has developed rapidly, and the market has maintained a high-speed growth trend. It has become an important force in stabilizing foreign trade, a new driving force for the transformation and upgrading of foreign trade, a new channel for innovative development, and a new bridge for the construction of the “One Belt, One Road” initiative.

The 2022 Shandong (Liaocheng) Cross-border E-commerce Summit of “Intelligent Manufacturing in Liaocheng, Exporting Industries to the Sea” was held recently to explore new trends, new ideas, and new models in the cross-border e-commerce industry.
At the summit, the “2022 Cross-border E-commerce Industry Development Research Report” jointly released by Zhihuigu, Alibaba Cloud Innovation Center, Chuangtoutiao, and Boshi Technology analyzed and interpreted the development opportunities and challenges of the cross-border e-commerce industry from the perspective of my country’s cross-border e-commerce industry overview, popular tracks, and cross-border e-commerce industry analysis.
The report states that in recent years, driven by national strategies and driven by important factors such as policies, digital technology, and global supply and demand, cross-border e-commerce has continued to grow at a rapid pace.
In terms of policy, my country has successively introduced a number of policies and measures to guide, regulate and promote the development of cross-border e-commerce.
The National 14th Five-Year Plan points out that we will accelerate the development of cross-border e-commerce, encourage the construction of overseas warehouses, and ensure the smooth operation of the foreign trade industrial chain and supply chain.
It is worth noting that this year, driven by policy dividends such as the entry into force of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (RCEP), the value of import and export preferential goods enjoyed by my country’s foreign trade companies in the first half of 2022 will exceed 120 billion yuan.
Policy support has created a good environment for the development of cross-border e-commerce, allowing many companies to expand overseas markets with greater peace of mind.
On the other hand, digital technology provides strong support for the development of cross-border e-commerce.
Digital technologies such as big data, cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and blockchain have fully penetrated into all aspects of the cross-border e-commerce industry and become an important driving force for iterative innovation in the industry.
Through big data analysis, enterprises can better understand the needs and preferences of overseas consumers, so as to accurately carry out product development and marketing promotion; cloud computing provides enterprises with powerful computing power and storage capabilities, ensuring the stable operation of business.

In terms of supply and demand, under the influence of the global epidemic, cross-border e-commerce has become the most important global commodity trading channel.
China’s efficient epidemic prevention and control and rapid economic recovery have laid a good foundation for Chinese cross-border sellers to successfully go overseas. Affected by the epidemic, the “stay-at-home economy” has become the mainstream, and foreign consumers have transformed to online consumption on a large scale, stimulating the rapid development of the cross-border e-commerce industry.
Many consumers who were originally accustomed to offline shopping had to turn to online platforms due to the epidemic, which has brought unprecedented development opportunities to cross-border e-commerce.
The report shows that the industrial ecology is increasingly improving and cross-border services have attracted much attention.
Affected by the epidemic, the development growth of many industries has slowed down. Cross-border e-commerce, which has grown against the trend, has developed into a complete ecosystem including supply chain, cross-border e-commerce platform, cross-border logistics, cross-border payment, advertising and marketing, etc.
All links collaborate with each other to jointly promote the development of the cross-border e-commerce industry.
With the rapid development of the cross-border e-commerce industry, capital is rushing in.
From 2017 to the first quarter of 2022, a total of 262 investment events occurred in China’s cross-border e-commerce field, with a total investment amount of 65.491 billion yuan.
Among them, the total investment amount in 2021 increased by 192% compared with 2020.
Among them, in the past two years, service providers have been the most favored segment by capital.
From 2021 to the first quarter of 2022, 62 of the 92 investment events in China’s cross-border e-commerce field were for service providers, accounting for 67.4%.
The injection of capital provides sufficient financial support for the development of cross-border e-commerce, helping enterprises to expand their scale and enhance their competitiveness.
From the perspective of popular cross-border e-commerce export categories, digital 3C, home furniture and clothing, shoes and hats rank among the top three, with 28%, 26% and 22% of sellers selling products in the corresponding categories respectively.
In addition, categories such as beauty and personal care, sports and outdoor sports, small commodities and handicrafts, and handmade gardening are also current cross-border e-commerce hot spots.
Different popular categories meet the diverse needs of overseas consumers and provide more choices for Chinese sellers.
At the same time, under the influence of national policies, market demand, technological development, and capital power, my country’s cross-border e-commerce has shown a new development trend: capital support, increased demand, and huge market potential for cross-border e-commerce support service providers; cross-border e-commerce has entered the era of “selling products overseas” to “going brand overseas”; in the era of mobile social networking, cross-border e-commerce traffic has changed and developed towards refinement.
In the future, China’s cross-border e-commerce is expected to achieve even better results in the global market and make greater contributions to the development of China’s foreign trade.
