The cross-border payment sector has received a significant policy boost, and industry leader Lianlian Digital (2598.HK) has taken the lead in positioning itself, poised to reap substantial benefits from this policy support. Recently, the People’s Bank of China and eight other departments jointly issued the “Opinions on Financial Support for Accelerating the Construction of the Western Land-Sea New Corridor.” This document proposes a series of measures to promote the cross-border use of RMB, strengthen bilateral monetary cooperation with Southeast Asian and Central Asian countries, and create favorable conditions for the cross-border use of RMB. It also proposes to explore international cooperation in digital finance, support provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities) along the corridor to participate in multilateral central bank digital currency bridge projects, and promote the use of central bank digital currencies in cross-border payments with Thailand, Hong Kong, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and other countries. Furthermore, the People’s Bank of China has issued an action plan for the digital RMB, and the new generation of digital RMB measurement framework, management system, operating mechanism, and ecosystem will be officially launched and implemented on January 1, 2026.

Lianlian Digital, as a leader in China’s digital payment solutions market and an enabler of global trade digitalization, is expected to fully benefit from this policy favorable environment. Lianlian Digital has always listed the circulation service of digital RMB as a key development strategy for the company and has invested special resources in in-depth research. As early as 2021, Lianlian Pay, a subsidiary of Lianlian Digital, signed a strategic cooperation agreement with the Digital Currency Research Institute to jointly promote the application of digital RMB in domestic and cross-border payment scenarios. Through these efforts, Lianlian Pay successfully connected to the digital RMB interoperability platform and conducted pilot tests in multiple scenarios such as transportation, retail, and public services in pilot areas such as Qingdao. This series of measures has accumulated rich experience and technological advantages for Lianlian Digital in the field of digital RMB.

Furthermore, Lianlian Digital has previously signed a cooperation agreement with the Bank of China. Both parties will leverage their respective business characteristics and resource advantages to jointly explore the application and innovation of the digital RMB in their respective ecosystems, and actively promote its implementation in pilot areas and related scenarios such as trade and services. This powerful alliance will further enhance Lianlian Digital’s competitiveness in the digital payment field.
With the continuous advancement of policies and the gradual improvement of the digital RMB ecosystem, Lianlian Digital, with its early planning and deep technological accumulation, is expected to occupy a more advantageous position in the cross-border payment market, providing more convenient and efficient payment solutions for Chinese goods to go global, and contributing to the development of China’s foreign trade industry. In the future, we have reason to expect Lianlian Digital to achieve even greater success in the cross-border payment field and make a greater contribution to the development of China’s digital payment industry.
