Recently, China Guangfa Bank successfully completed its first cross-border remittance transaction under the agency model of a multilateral central bank digital currency bridge (hereinafter referred to as “the currency bridge”). This move represents a significant breakthrough for Guangfa Bank in keeping pace with national financial opening-up policies and expanding the cross-border application scenarios of the digital RMB, injecting new vitality into the cross-border payment field.

As the world’s first multi-national central bank digital currency interconnection project jointly initiated by the People’s Bank of China, the Hong Kong Monetary Authority, the Central Bank of Thailand, and the Central Bank of the United Arab Emirates, the currency bridge relies on blockchain and distributed ledger technology to achieve peer-to-peer transactions. This advanced technology significantly simplifies intermediary bank processes, reduces transaction costs, and provides customers with safe, efficient, and low-cost cross-border financial service solutions. The successful completion of this transaction is an important practice for Guangfa Bank in the field of digital RMB cross-border payments, actively responding to the requirements of the “Action Plan on Further Strengthening the Management and Service System and Related Financial Infrastructure Construction of Digital RMB”.
This marks a crucial step for the bank in reshaping its cross-border business model and adapting to new cross-border payment infrastructure, and also accumulates valuable experience for further innovation. Under the guidance of the national “dual circulation” development pattern and the policy of high-level financial opening-up, the currency bridge, as the “infrastructure” for digital RMB cross-border payments, is reconstructing the cross-border payment industry chain through technological innovation. It promotes the transformation of banks from “traditional payment intermediaries” to “comprehensive financial service providers,” laying a solid technological foundation for the internationalization of the RMB. In recent years, Guangfa Bank has steadfastly followed the path of financial development with Chinese characteristics and continuously strengthened its cross-border financial service capabilities. For example, the innovative launch of Cross-border Wealth Management Connect 2.0 upgraded cross-border wealth management services in the Greater Bay Area; enriched the CIPS product line, contributing to the construction of an independent and controllable cross-border payment system; and as one of the first institutions to promote the service, launched Cross-border Payment Connect, enabling real-time cross-border fund receipts and payments; and optimized the global correspondent banking network, building a service system covering both domestic and international markets. The launch of this currency bridge business further extends cross-border financial services from traditional scenarios to the innovative field of digital RMB, adding new momentum to serving the cross-border development of the real economy. Next, Guangfa Bank will seize the window of opportunity presented by the development of digital RMB, and under the unified deployment and careful guidance of the People’s Bank of China, fully leverage its advantages as the headquarters and institutional network in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. It will continue to focus on technology implementation and scenario innovation, effectively meeting the dual needs of enterprises “going global” and “bringing in” financial resources. Guangfa Bank will contribute its strength to steadily expanding the high-level opening up of cross-border trade and investment and serving the RMB internationalization strategy. It is believed that in the future, Guangfa Bank will achieve more breakthroughs and accomplishments in the field of cross-border finance, making a greater contribution to promoting the development of China’s financial industry.
