The whistle of the 2030 World Cup has not yet blown, but the construction of the stadium in North Africa is already in full swing.
At the Rabat Stadium construction site in Morocco, a 1,000-ton crawler crane accurately lifted hundreds of tons of steel structures into place.
After completing the preliminary hoisting of the main body of the stadium, this “Big Mac” made in Hunan will move to the Hassan II Stadium, the largest football stadium in the world.
Under the steel skeleton of the World Cup venues, what is pulsating is Hunan Engineering Machinery’s industrial ambition to deeply explore Africa.
Relevant statistics show that in the first five months of 2026, Hunan’s construction machinery exports were 17.3 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 20.1%; of which exports to Africa were 2.55 billion yuan, an increase of 85.2%, far exceeding the overall export growth rate.
Demand-driven: Mining and infrastructure are heating up across the board
The Simandou Iron Mine, located in southeastern Guinea, West Africa, is currently the undeveloped iron ore with the largest reserves and the best quality in the world. This super project with a total investment of more than 20 billion US dollars, supporting the construction of over 620 kilometers of cross-border heavy-haul railways and modern ports, requires extremely high equipment availability and stability.
At the end of 2025, a group of large-tonnage engineering cranes drove into this land and fully devoted themselves to the construction of core infrastructure in the mining area.
The core driving force behind the explosive growth in demand for construction machinery in Africa is mining.
Since 2025, resource development projects such as iron ore and bauxite in Guinea, lithium mines in Mali, and iron ore in Nigeria have been intensively launched, driving demand for equipment in the entire chain of open-pit mining, ore loading and unloading, and short-distance transportation.
Taking excavators as an example, about 75% of Africa’s demand comes from the mining of nonferrous and precious metal minerals such as copper, gold, and lithium.
Statistics show that in the first five months of 2026, Hunan exported 270 million yuan of construction machinery to Mali, an increase of 171.9%; and exported 220 million yuan to Guinea, an increase of 179.7%.
Infrastructure projects are another major growth engine.
Currently, Africa is experiencing the fastest urbanization process in the world. According to the African Union’s prediction, the proportion of Africa’s urban population will rise to 50% by 2030. The rapid increase in urban population has brought huge demand for housing, public transportation and municipal facilities. Local engineering equipment is more than 90% dependent on imports, and there is a strong demand for equipment updates.
This demand is directly reflected in the structure of Hunan’s export products: in the first five months of 2026, Hunan exported 4.63 billion yuan of earth-moving machinery such as excavators, loaders, and road rollers, an increase of 42.2%; freight motor vehicles were 490 million yuan, an increase of 70.8%.
Supply breakthrough: Hardcore power wins the market
The recently released list of the top 50 global construction machinery manufacturers in 2026 shows that 13 Chinese companies are on the list, with Hunan occupying 5 seats.
To win the trust of African customers, the strength of Hunan construction machinery companies lies not only in “selling products” but also in “providing scenario-based solutions”.
African mining areas and construction sites usually face high temperatures, high sand and dust, and areas with weak infrastructure are mostly unpaved roads. The quality of local fuels varies, and the performance requirements for construction machinery and equipment are relatively stringent.
Based on a deep understanding of these challenges, Hunan companies have accurately transformed their products: the relevant equipment not only has stronger continuous operation capabilities, but also reduces operating costs through intelligent energy-saving technology in response to the relatively unstable power supply in Africa; customized products cover multiple categories such as earthmoving, lifting, and agricultural machinery, emphasizing the multi-purpose of one machine, and can find suitable solutions for everything from small farms to large infrastructure projects.
Cost-effectiveness is another “trump card”. Compared with European and American brands, Hunan construction machinery equipment maintains core performance while being more competitive in price. For African customers with limited budgets, this balance is particularly attractive.
From the Rabat Stadium in Morocco for the 2030 World Cup, to the Bishoftu International Airport, the largest airport in Africa, to the Mombasa-Nairobi Railway in Kenya, and the Central Standard Gauge Railway in Tanzania… one after another African landmark projects have become the core business cards of “Made in Hunan”.
Take root and grow: from exhibition stage to local ecological construction
How to turn short-term export dividends into long-term market penetration?
Industry researchers believe that companies should establish a sustainable business ecosystem in Africa through exhibitions and local roots.
In June 2026, the African branch of the Changsha International Construction Machinery Exhibition was held in Nairobi, Kenya. More than 1,300 professional buyers were present, with a total contract value of US$189.4 million, and the merchant network radiated to 15 African countries.
In the same month, a special China-Africa economic and trade docking event was held in Casablanca, Morocco, where Hunan construction machinery companies directly connected with local Moroccan companies.
Industry insiders said that exhibitions are not only product display platforms, but also efficient channels for the transmission of the advantages of industrial clusters. Companies can convert “exhibition traffic” into “economic and trade increments” through precise supply and demand docking, and move the docking platform directly to the doorstep of Africa, reducing companies’ customer acquisition costs and improving docking efficiency.
To solve “how to sell”, we also need to think about “what really stands up.”
At present, Hunan construction machinery companies have established a complete localized service system in Africa. By setting up local subsidiaries, service stations and warehousing centers, they have established localized after-sales, maintenance and parts supply systems to quickly respond to customer needs and solve the core pain points of equipment operation and maintenance for overseas customers.
For example, some companies have invested in building industrial parks and central warehouses in South Africa. They not only provide parts support to customers, but also set up training centers to provide technical training for local service personnel. The proportion of local employees in the industrial park is about 90%.
At present, the China-Africa Deep Economic and Trade Cooperation Pilot Zone relies on the free trade pilot zone to promote institutional innovation, superimpose the benefits of the zero-tariff policy towards Africa, and provide enterprises with a package of services such as customs clearance, settlement, and legal services.
Industry insiders suggest that a public platform can be built in the future in terms of mutual recognition of standards and co-construction of after-sales service networks to prevent companies from fighting independently and duplicating construction, twisting scattered forces into a rope, and allowing Hunan Construction Machinery to form a real brand synergy in Africa.
