Kolan Software helps the digital yuan go global, leading a new trend in cross-border payments.

Data from the central bank indicates the rapid rise of the digital yuan in cross-border payments, with the market size projected to reach between RMB 40.6 trillion and RMB 162.4 trillion by 2030. Leveraging its forward-looking strategic layout and technological innovation, Kelan Software has emerged as a key technological driver for the digital yuan’s expansion into international markets; the company has achieved breakthroughs with its solutions across diverse scenarios, is actively building a collaborative ecosystem to address challenges, and has formulated a "three-step" strategy to establish a global service network.

The latest data from the People’s Bank of China reveals a significant trend: the digital yuan is rapidly emerging in the cross-border payment sector. The multilateral central bank digital currency bridge has processed 4,047 cross-border payment transactions, totaling RMB 387.2 billion, with digital yuan accounting for approximately 95.3%. It is predicted that by 2030, the market size of digital yuan cross-border payments may reach RMB 40.6 trillion to RMB 162.4 trillion. Facing this new blue ocean, KOLAN Software, with its forward-looking strategy and technological innovation, is becoming a key technological driver for the global expansion of the digital yuan. Cross-border payments are the “main battlefield” for the digital yuan. The “Opinions on Financial Support for Accelerating the Construction of the Western Land-Sea New Corridor,” issued by eight departments including the People’s Bank of China, explicitly states: “Support provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities) along the corridor to participate in multilateral central bank digital currency bridge projects, and promote the use of central bank digital currencies in cross-border payments with Thailand, Hong Kong, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and other countries.” This marks the internationalization of the digital yuan from theoretical exploration to substantive implementation. The head of cross-border payment business at Kolan Software pointed out: “Compared with traditional cross-border payments, cross-border payments based on central bank digital currencies have significant advantages: transaction costs are reduced by more than 50%, settlement time is shortened from several days to minutes, transparency is greatly improved, and programmable functions are supported to automate the execution of transaction conditions.” These advantages are the fundamental reasons for the rapid penetration of the digital yuan in cross-border payments. In terms of technological foundation, Kolan Software has built a complete digital yuan cross-border payment technology stack, covering three layers: underlying protocol adaptation, middleware platform, and application interface. At the protocol layer, Kolan’s cross-border payment system supports multiple international standard protocols, including ISO 20022 and SWIFT GPI, and can smoothly connect with existing cross-border payment systems. Meanwhile, the company actively participates in the formulation of technical specifications for multilateral central bank digital currency bridges (mBridges) to ensure that the system complies with the latest international standards. At the platform layer, KOLAN’s independently developed “Cross-border Digital RMB Settlement Platform” has four core functions: automatic multi-currency exchange, intelligent routing selection, a compliance risk control engine, and 24/7 operational support. At the application layer, KOLAN provides customized solutions for different types of clients. In terms of scenario breakthroughs, KOLAN’s digital RMB cross-border payment solution has achieved breakthroughs in multiple scenarios. In the goods trade sector, in cooperation with a large import and export enterprise, a cross-border trade settlement platform based on digital RMB was built, significantly shortening settlement time, reducing exchange rate losses, and integrating trade finance functions. In the service trade sector, solutions were provided for international tourism platforms to address the issue of long capital occupation cycles. In the capital project sector, active participation in cross-border innovation pilots in the financial market is encouraged. In terms of ecosystem building, Kolan Software adopts an “internal and external linkage” strategy to construct an open cooperative ecosystem. Domestically, it has established strategic partnerships with major commercial banks, payment institutions, and cross-border e-commerce platforms; internationally, it actively expands cooperation with overseas financial institutions and technology companies. Addressing challenges, cross-border payments using the digital RMB face challenges related to security, compliance, and standardization. Kolan Software actively responds through technological innovation and management optimization. In terms of security, it employs a multi-layered security system; in terms of compliance, it has assembled a professional team with a built-in compliance rule engine; and in terms of standardization, it actively participates in the formulation of international standards. Looking ahead, with the implementation of the new generation digital RMB system in 2026, cross-border payments will usher in greater development opportunities. Kolan Software has formulated a “three-step” strategy, which will continue to increase investment in technological research and development, deepen cooperation with domestic and international partners, strengthen talent cultivation, and help the digital RMB play a greater role on the international stage, injecting new momentum into global trade and financial cooperation.
