New energy has become a major issue faced by the automotive industry in recent years, and it has also prompted automotive upstream and aftermarket suppliers to carry out core transformation.
As an indispensable component of automobiles, tires are facing new technological changes and market challenges.
The first is to obtain a highly elastic rubber formula, which effectively reduces the internal energy loss of tire driving and improves the cruising range; the second is the low rolling resistance technology, which can increase the cruising range by 1% for every 5% – 6% reduction in rolling resistance.
However, in the new energy commercial vehicle market, there are cost issues in the early stages of promoting new technologies and products.
Feng Baochun said that Linglong’s idea is to “optimize the operating cost per kilometer” to help customers solve their pain points.
Electric truck tires have two major pain points. One is the heavy weight of the battery pack, and the other is the fast power output, which requires stringent tire tear resistance and wear resistance.
Linglong Tire responds in two aspects: applying new technologies of anti-fast wear, anti-eccentric wear, and high load-bearing capacity; and creating exclusive products for segmented scenarios.
For example, for port terminal electric products, new technology can improve the wear resistance by more than 50% over the original level, greatly reducing operating costs.
Linglong Tire has achieved outstanding results in the new energy market.
From 2020 to 2024, it has ranked at the forefront of the industry in new energy vehicle tire matching for five consecutive years, ranking first in global new energy vehicle matching tire sales.
The early comprehensive layout of the global market gave it more space to expand.
Around 2010, Linglong’s average export volume exceeded 50%. In 2012, Linglong started its international supporting business. Currently, eight of the world’s top ten brands use Linglong tires, with a cumulative supply of over 300 million tires.
In terms of technological innovation, Linglong Tire has made many achievements.
Its silent and noise reduction technology system integrates three major technologies: three-dimensional silencing, noise sealing and silent ditch wall, allowing the product to achieve ultra-low noise driving. Combined with silent cotton technology, the overall noise can be reduced by more than 10 decibels.
In terms of energy saving, the high-elastic rubber formula can reduce the internal energy loss of tires by more than 20%, and the rolling resistance level is leading.
In terms of international layout, Linglong implements the “7 + 5” strategy, that is, 7 factories in China and 5 overseas factories. The goal is to build 12 global production and manufacturing bases by 2030.
In 2012, it invested and built a factory in Thailand. In 2019, it established a factory in Serbia and will start mass production in 2024.
In addition, Linglong has also joined forces with domestic first-class OEMs, upstream resources and logistics companies to go overseas to form an industrial chain synergy.
In the face of increasingly stringent tire environmental protection requirements from the EU and China, Linglong Tire has made breakthroughs in four aspects: high-performance new material application, sustainable materials and technology, recycling and renewable material application, and digital advanced tire development technology.
For example, we have launched tires with more than 79% sustainable material content, developed biodegradable rubber, and used waste tire recycling technology to produce raw materials.
In terms of meeting the electrification needs of commercial vehicles, Linglong uses new technologies to launch the sport Master e electric series products covering all new energy scenarios, and creates exclusive pattern designs and formulas for different scenarios.
For driverless cars, Linglong is also jointly developing special tire solutions for Robotaxi with its partners. Although the relevant new technologies are still under development, they are worth looking forward to.
