Luoyang Mining Machinery Factory (referred to as “Luoyang Mining Machinery”) is one of the 156 key projects aided by the Soviet Union during the “First Five-Year Plan” period of New China.
It broke ground in 1954 and was completed and put into operation in 1958. It is the cradle of China’s heavy machinery industry and is still one of the most eye-catching coordinates on Luoyang’s industrial map.

In the early days of building the factory, builders from all over the country took root in the Jianxi Industrial Zone, and it took them only four years to reach full production.
The first 2.5-meter winch and the first large-scale crusher produced independently filled the gap in domestic mining equipment and completely broke the situation in which my country’s mining equipment was completely dependent on imports in the early days of the founding of the People’s Republic of China.
In the 1960s and 1970s, Luo Mine was responsible for more than 80% of the country’s large-scale mining equipment production tasks. From Panzhihua Iron Mine to Daqing Oilfield, the core equipment of most key industrial projects in the country were printed with the “Made in Luo Mine” logo. It was a glorious era for Luo Mine, and it made great contributions to the country’s industrial construction.
However, after the reform and opening up, Luoyang Mine experienced the pain of market-oriented transformation.
In 2008, Luo Kuang was merged into CITIC Group and reorganized into CITIC Heavy Machinery Co., Ltd., starting a new journey as a “national weapon”.

Today, CITIC Heavy Industries is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of mining equipment and cement equipment.
Its independently developed 18,500-ton hydraulic press, the world’s largest diameter shield machine, and deep-sea mining equipment have successively broken foreign technology monopolies.
It has successively provided core components for national projects such as the “Jiaolong” manned submersible and the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, continuing the industrial bloodline of Luokang.
After nearly 70 years, the slogan “Self-reliance and hard work” is still clear on the red brick wall of the Soviet-style workshop in the old Luokang factory.
Next to it is a modern intelligent production workshop. In the scene where the old and the new are intertwined, the footprints of China Heavy Industries from catching up to leading are clearly visible.
In the past, Luo Mine represented the beginning and exploration of China’s industry; now, CITIC Heavy Industries symbolizes the innovation and transcendence of China Heavy Industry.
It is not only the development process of an enterprise, but also the epitome of the continuous progress of China’s industry, inspiring generations of industrial people to continue to work hard to realize the dream of a strong Chinese industrial nation.
