On June 18, Chongqing Customs released data. In the first five months of this year, Chongqing’s foreign trade import and export reached 387.86 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 32.5%, which was 17.2 percentage points higher than the overall national level.
Among them, exports were 273.69 billion yuan, an increase of 33.2%, and imports were 114.17 billion yuan, an increase of 30.9%.

Specifically, there are mainly the following four characteristics:
First, the vitality of business entities is bursting.
In the first five months, there were 5,321 import and export companies in Chongqing with actual performance, an increase of 30.3%.
Among them, the import and export of private enterprises was 186.53 billion yuan, an increase of 29.7%; the import and export of foreign-invested enterprises was 156.16 billion yuan, an increase of 31.6%; the import and export of state-owned enterprises was 45.12 billion yuan, an increase of 51%.
Many enterprises actively participate in foreign trade activities, demonstrating the vitality of Chongqing’s foreign trade market. Various enterprises have achieved import and export growth to varying degrees, injecting strong impetus into the development of Chongqing’s foreign trade.
Second, the foreign trade “circle of friends” continues to expand.
In the first five months, Chongqing’s imports and exports to the top five trading partners all increased. Among them, imports and exports to the top two trading partners ASEAN and the EU were 64.56 billion yuan and 46.29 billion yuan respectively, an increase of 25.9% and 19.7% respectively.
During the same period, imports and exports to countries co-building the “Belt and Road” were 177.23 billion yuan, an increase of 34.8%, contributing 48.1% of the city’s foreign trade increase; imports and exports to emerging markets such as Latin America, Africa, and Central Asia were 34.69 billion yuan, 16.81 billion yuan, and 3.84 billion yuan, respectively, an increase of 35.5%, 44.5%, and 62.7%.
Chongqing continues to expand trading partners and strengthen economic exchanges with different regions. It not only consolidates traditional markets, but also actively explores emerging markets, creating favorable conditions for the continued growth of foreign trade.

Third, the regional and county platforms have made outstanding contributions.
The city’s 28 districts and counties have seen an increase in import and export, among which Shapingba District and Liangjiang New District contributed more than 90% of the city’s foreign trade increase.
During the same period, the city’s seven comprehensive bonded zones had a total import and export volume of 261.76 billion yuan, an increase of 43.6%.
Large districts, counties and comprehensive bonded zones have played an important supporting role in the development of Chongqing’s foreign trade. They have promoted the rapid growth of import and export business with their own advantages and policy support.
Fourth, both the quantity and quality of import and export of key commodities have increased.
In terms of exports, in the first five months, the exports of laptops, cars, mobile phones, and motorcycles were 71.68 billion yuan, 23.81 billion yuan, 23.16 billion yuan, and 12.21 billion yuan respectively, an increase of 21.9%, 66.4%, 11.4%, and 9.8% respectively; the export of agricultural products was 1.12 billion yuan, an increase of 56.1%.

The growth of import and export of key commodities reflects the optimization of Chongqing’s industrial structure and the improvement of product competitiveness, making it more attractive in the international market.
Overall, Chongqing’s foreign trade has shown a good development trend in the first five months, and the interaction of positive factors in various aspects has promoted the rapid growth of foreign trade.
In the future, Chongqing is expected to continue to maintain this development momentum and achieve even better results in global trade.
