In the first five months of this year, my country’s western region has achieved remarkable results in the field of foreign trade.
According to relevant statistics, the import and export of goods trade in 12 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities in western my country reached 2.06 trillion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 18.5%, and achieved double-digit growth for six consecutive months. This scale has set a new high for the same period in history, and contributed 11.7% to the growth of national foreign trade during the same period.
From the specific data of import and export, exports reached 1.3 trillion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 16.6%; imports were 759.67 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 22%.
This shows that the western region not only maintains a steady growth in exports in international trade, but also shows a strong upward trend in imports.
At the enterprise level, the number of enterprises with import and export performance reached 39,000, a year-on-year increase of 18.5%.
Among them, private enterprises accounted for a large proportion, reaching 36,000.
This fully shows that private enterprises play an important role in the development of foreign trade in the western region, and their activity has injected new vitality into the economic development of the western region.
It is particularly worth mentioning that in the first five months, the western region’s imports and exports to countries co-building the “Belt and Road” reached 1.3 trillion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 18.2%, accounting for more than 60% of the total foreign trade import and export value of the western region.
This reflects the western region’s active response to the “One Belt, One Road” initiative, increasingly close trade exchanges with countries along the route, and expanding areas of cooperation.

The record high import and export scale in the western region is inseparable from many factors.
On the one hand, the support of national policies provides a good environment for the development of foreign trade in the western region.
The government has introduced a series of policies and measures to promote trade facilitation, reducing the operating costs of enterprises and improving trade efficiency.
On the other hand, the western region’s own industrial structure has been continuously optimized, and specialty industries have developed rapidly. Products in agricultural products, energy resources and other fields have strong competitiveness in the international market.
In addition, the continuous improvement of transportation infrastructure also provides a strong guarantee for the development of foreign trade in the western region.
The increasingly developed transportation networks such as roads, railways, and aviation have made the western region more closely connected with domestic and foreign markets and made cargo transportation more convenient.

Looking to the future, the western region is expected to continue to maintain this good development trend.
With the further advancement of the “Belt and Road” construction, the western region will usher in more development opportunities.
At the same time, the western region also needs to continuously strengthen its own innovation capabilities, improve product quality and added value, and further enhance its competitiveness in the international market.
It is believed that with the joint efforts of all parties, the foreign trade development in the western region will achieve more brilliant achievements and make greater contributions to my country’s economic development.
