Indonesia’s rubber antioxidant market has great potential, and China’s export opportunities are highlighted

With the continued growth of global automotive tire production, the market outlook for rubber anti-aging agents is promising. Indonesia represents a market with immense potential; while it boasts abundant rubber raw materials and a rapidly expanding automotive industry—driving an increase in tire production capacity—its domestic capacity for rubber anti-aging agents remains insufficient. Consequently, the country relies heavily on imports, with China serving as a primary source.

Against the background of global economic development, automobile tire production continues to increase, which also brings considerable development prospects to the rubber antioxidant market, especially the Indonesian market, which shows huge investment potential.

Rubber Antioxidant is an indispensable chemical substance in rubber production.
It can effectively delay rubber aging and extend rubber service life.
According to different chemical structures, they can be subdivided into various types such as amines, phenols, heterocyclics, etc.
From the perspective of raw materials, aniline, sulfur, liquid alkali, etc. are the main raw materials for the production of rubber antioxidants, and changes in their supply and market prices have a significant impact on industrial development.
For example, aniline. As of the end of 2023, the global aniline production capacity will exceed 10 million tons per year. Northeast Asia, Western Europe and North America are the main supply markets, accounting for more than 91% of the total production capacity.

From an application perspective, rubber antioxidants are mainly used in the production of rubber products such as tires, rubber hoses, and tapes.
Among them, tires are its largest application area.
According to data from the International Tire and Rubber Association, global tire sales will reach 1.785 billion units in 2023, a year-on-year increase of 2.3%; production will reach 1.82 billion units, a year-on-year increase of 4.0%.
Driven by this, the market development trend of rubber antioxidants and other materials is improving.
The global rubber antioxidant market size will reach US$1.17 billion in 2024, and is expected to increase at a compound annual growth rate of 3.2% from 2025 to 2030, and is expected to exceed US$1.4 billion by 2030.

In Indonesia, tires are a popular application area for rubber antioxidants.
This is closely related to the local abundant rubber raw materials and the rapidly developing automobile industry.
Indonesia is the world’s second largest natural rubber producer, with natural rubber production reaching 2.65 million metric tons in 2023, second only to Thailand.
At the same time, Indonesia’s automobile industry has developed rapidly in recent years, with automobile production exceeding 1.4 million units in 2023, including 1.18 million passenger cars and 220,000 commercial vehicles.

Affected by these factors, Indonesian tire production capacity continues to expand.
Rubber aging agent is one of the key raw materials for automobile tire manufacturing. Therefore, the growth of Indonesian automobile tire production capacity has indirectly stimulated the release of demand for upstream raw materials such as rubber aging agent.
However, the current production capacity of local rubber antioxidants in Indonesia is low and it is difficult to meet the growing domestic application demand. The market relies heavily on imports, with China being its main source of imports.
In 2023, China’s export volume of other rubber antioxidants reached 23306.744 tons, a year-on-year increase of 19.37%, and the export value reached 432.9459 million yuan, a year-on-year increase of 12.15%; among them, the quantity of rubber antioxidants exported to Indonesia was 2370.629 tons, accounting for about 10.17%, and the amount was 36.2647 million yuan, accounting for about 8.38%.

In general, Indonesia is a rubber aging agent market with great development potential in the world, and its application demand is mainly concentrated in the automobile tire industry.
The rapid development of the Indonesian tire industry in recent years has released a large demand for rubber aging agent applications. However, insufficient local production capacity has made the market highly dependent on imports. China, as the main source of imports, has broad development space in the Indonesian rubber aging agent market.
