Ministry of Commerce: Take multiple measures to stabilize foreign trade and expand global markets

A spokesperson for the Ministry of Commerce stated that although China's foreign trade faces a complex external environment in 2026, it still possesses favorable conditions. The Ministry will step up efforts to stabilize foreign trade and promote trade development across four key areas.

In 2026, China will face profound and complex changes in the external environment, with strategic opportunities and risks and challenges coexisting, and uncertain and unpredictable factors increasing.
However, China’s economic foundation is stable, has many advantages, is strong in resilience and has great potential, and it still has many favorable conditions for the development of foreign trade.
A spokesman for the Ministry of Commerce stated on January 15 that the Ministry of Commerce will conscientiously implement the decisions and arrangements of the Party Central Committee and the State Council, anchor the goals of innovative development, quality improvement and efficiency, strive to promote the integration of trade and investment, cultivate new momentum for foreign trade, make every effort to stabilize the fundamentals of foreign trade, and contribute to a good start and a good start for the “15th Five-Year Plan”.
The focus will be on increasing efforts to stabilize foreign trade from the following four aspects.

First, ensure the implementation of various foreign trade policies to achieve results.
Implementing policies and measures to stabilize foreign trade is an important task at present.
It is necessary to provide precise assistance to enterprises and stabilize confidence and expectations.
Local governments should combine actual conditions, strengthen situation analysis and enterprise-related research, and innovate measures to stabilize foreign trade.
At the same time, we will strengthen policy publicity and interpretation to ensure that companies are fully aware of and enjoy policy dividends.
Only by truly implementing policies can we create a better development environment for enterprises and enhance their competitiveness.

The second is to increase efforts to expand diversified markets.
This is crucial to stabilizing foreign trade.
The Ministry of Commerce will strengthen guidance to local governments and enterprises to help enterprises stabilize traditional markets and expand emerging markets.
Increase support for enterprises to participate in overseas exhibitions and organize a series of trade promotion activities.
For example, if the 139th and 140th Canton Fair are successfully held, these large-scale exhibitions will build a good communication and cooperation platform for enterprises.
In addition, we will continue to compile and distribute “Country Trade Guides” and foreign trade promotion information to help enterprises improve their ability to explore markets.

The third is to accelerate the cultivation of new momentum.
Cross-border e-commerce is a new bright spot in the development of foreign trade. The Ministry of Commerce will guide the cross-border e-commerce comprehensive pilot zone to vigorously develop cross-border e-commerce enabling industry belts, strengthen the capacity building of cross-border e-commerce business entities, and support overseas warehouse companies to accelerate intelligent transformation.
At the same time, we will implement the “Implementation Opinions on Expanding Green Trade”, study and formulate a statistical catalog of import and export of green and low-carbon related products, and enhance the international competitiveness of green and low-carbon products.
Promote artificial intelligence to empower the development of foreign trade, improve the digitalization level of the entire trade chain, and inject new vitality into the development of foreign trade.

The fourth is to promote the balanced development of imports and exports.
Launch the “Export to China” brand and select the annual theme country for key docking.
Organize no less than 100 import promotion activities and build an exchange and docking platform to facilitate the entry of high-quality products and services from more countries into China and better meet the people’s needs for a better life.
By promoting the balanced development of imports and exports, it can not only enhance China’s position in global trade, but also promote the upgrading of domestic consumption and achieve sustainable economic development.

In short, these measures taken by the Ministry of Commerce will help China’s foreign trade maintain stable development in a complex international environment, further expand the global market, and make greater contributions to the development of China’s economy.
