New foreign trade policies in 2026 help three types of enterprises seize market opportunities.

A wave of new foreign trade policies is set to roll out in 2026, encompassing tariff adjustments, the realization of RCEP benefits, and increased subsidies for cross-border e-commerce. This article highlights three types of enterprises poised to capitalize on the dual tailwinds of policy incentives and market growth: those deeply engaged in the RCEP region, exporters of green and smart products, and businesses operating a dual-track model of cross-border e-commerce and independent online stores. It also outlines the universal benefits available to all foreign trade enterprises, along with key considerations for business upgrades and common pitfalls to avoid.

In 2026, a flurry of new foreign trade policies were implemented, bringing new development opportunities to the foreign trade industry. Tariff adjustments covered 935 categories, the benefits of the RCEP (Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership) continued to explode after four years of implementation, and subsidies for cross-border e-commerce were constantly being increased. The era of traditional foreign trade relying on low-price competition is over. Foreign trade revitalization is no longer an empty slogan; those companies that seized the opportunity early have already made a fortune, especially the following three types of companies, which directly benefited from both policy dividends and market growth.

Let’s look at a few real-world examples.

A Qingdao-based food company leveraged the RCEP’s cumulative rules of origin to achieve zero tariffs on its canned goods exports to Australia, resulting in a 27% surge in orders in 2025. FAW Jiefang, expanding into the Southeast Asian market, capitalized on the RCEP’s zero-tariff policy on dump trucks, achieving export values exceeding 300 million RMB in just six months. A Zhongshan-based cross-border e-commerce company built an independent website, receiving a 30% subsidy, halving its customer acquisition costs. These successes are not accidental, but rather the inevitable result of capitalizing on the new policies and revitalized market dynamics. The first category comprises companies deeply rooted in RCEP and regional strategies. With RCEP’s four-year implementation period in 2026, the benefits of tariff reductions and cumulative rules of origin will be fully realized, making these companies the first to benefit. The new policy explicitly extends the agreement’s tariff rates to 34 trading partners; as long as products comply with the rules of origin, exports to ASEAN, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, and South Korea can enjoy tariff reductions, or even zero tariffs. For example, Qingdao Kaichuang Food, which previously couldn’t enjoy preferential treatment when exporting canned goods to Australia due to raw material issues, now benefits from the RCEP cumulative rules. Raw materials imported from Southeast Asia are considered local ingredients, directly receiving zero tariffs, saving 5,000 yuan per shipment. Moreover, companies with regional production capacity have an even greater advantage. Yadea’s Vietnam factory serves the ASEAN market, and Hongdou’s cross-border factory has streamlined the Southeast Asian supply chain, with orders already booked for six months. These companies no longer need to crowd into the red ocean markets of Europe and America; by following the blue ocean of RCEP, they can diversify risks and profit from tariff differences. The new policy is undoubtedly a dedicated booster for these companies. The second category is foreign trade companies specializing in green and intelligent products. The core direction of the 2026 tariff adjustment is to support green, low-carbon, and new-quality productivity. Enterprises engaged in green foreign trade and producing intelligent products can enjoy the benefits of raw material tariff reductions and seize overseas markets with strong demand, making a surge in orders inevitable. The new policy reduces import tariffs on lithium battery recycled black powder and advanced materials, significantly lowering raw material costs for new energy equipment and bio-based packaging companies; the addition of a tariff item for intelligent bionic robots facilitates the export of smart wearables and smart home appliances. Guangzhou Gaojing Solar’s intelligent photovoltaic modules have a photoelectric conversion efficiency exceeding 24%, and orders are already booked until February 2026, with exports increasing fourfold year-on-year; bio-based packaging produced by Dongguan companies has secured large orders from European and American supermarkets due to its green attributes, with a premium 30% higher than traditional packaging. In the past, foreign trade companies relied on OEM manufacturing to earn meager profits. Now, these companies are building cross-border brands based on green and intelligent attributes, transforming from “world factories” to “value creators.” The new policy provides policy support, and overseas markets provide orders, allowing them to enjoy double benefits. The third category is enterprises with a dual-track model of cross-border e-commerce and independent websites. The new policy explicitly supports the high-quality development of cross-border e-commerce. Several cities, including Zhongshan and Weihai, have introduced subsidy policies, offering subsidies of up to 30% for independent cross-border e-commerce website fees and 50% for overseas exhibition booth fees. These businesses, operating both online and offline, can reduce customer acquisition costs and increase order processing speed, allowing SMEs to also benefit. Shandong plans to host 500 overseas exhibitions in 2026, with a subsidy of 4 million yuan per event, significantly reducing the cost of participating in overseas exhibitions. Online, AI customs clearance platforms have reduced customs declaration time from 1 hour to 15 minutes, and data platforms can accurately predict overseas best-selling products, allowing for customer expansion without the need for highly paid operations staff. Currently, the import and export volume of cross-border e-commerce is approaching 3 trillion yuan. Sellers in pet supplies and smart home products have achieved a repurchase rate of over 40% through independent websites and private domains. Combined with the new policy subsidies, they are earning pure profit. These businesses do not rely on a single channel; they expand their customer base through offline exhibitions and handle smaller orders online. With stable orders and strong risk resistance, the new policy provides reassurance to these companies. In addition to the exclusive benefits for the three types of enterprises mentioned above, all foreign trade enterprises can enjoy general benefits: Small and micro enterprises can receive free export credit insurance to mitigate foreign exchange collection risks; the government shares 60% of the deposit for forward foreign exchange settlement, alleviating financial pressure; and customs’ “two-step declaration” speeds up customs clearance, reducing cargo detention costs. Of course, there are pitfalls to avoid during the revitalization process. Enterprises should obtain carbon footprint certification in advance to cope with carbon tariffs, conduct cross-border payments in compliance with regulations, avoid blindly following trends to change tracks, focus on their own advantageous product categories, and leverage the new policies to easily get started. The foreign trade market in 2026 is not about making business difficult, but rather that old methods are no longer applicable. Foreign trade revitalization is not about overturning tradition, but about seizing opportunities by following new policies. These three types of enterprises are the first to benefit, essentially because they have accurately grasped policy guidance and market demands.
